Penny (Silver, 20 mm, 1.53 g, 3 h), a contemporary imitation of a crux type penny, uncertain mint. ✠ ÆDELRED REX ANGLO Draped bust of Aethelred II to left, holding cross tipped scepter in his right hand. Rev. BУRHΛI[...]IEOTΠDERЄ(sic!) Voided short cross with T - V - X - O [sic!] in angles. Cf. North 770 and SCBC 1148 (for prototype). Very rare and nicely toned. Rough and with some edge chipping, otherwise, good fine.
